What To Do With Your First Jar

A method for the first thirty days that will actually tell you something at the end of them.

What To Do With Your First Jar

Most people take a supplement for a month, look in the mirror, decide they cannot tell, and either stop or continue without ever learning anything. Thirty days of effort producing no information is a waste, and it is avoidable with about ten minutes of setup.

Day One: Set A Baseline

Photograph your face. Same window, daylight, no makeup, no filter, straight on, and one at a slight angle. This is the single most useful thing you will do, because the mirror is hopeless at detecting gradual change in something you look at daily.

Photograph one hand. Nails, flat against a plain surface, in the same light. Mark roughly where the growth line sits relative to the cuticle.

Write three sentences. What bothers you, in your own words, today. Tight after washing? Splitting at the corner of two nails? Hair on the brush? Specific beats general, because in eight weeks you will not accurately remember what you meant by "dull".

Change One Thing

This is the rule people break immediately and then regret. If you start a supplement, a new serum, a new cleanser and a sleep schedule in the same fortnight, you will never know which of them did anything — and you will keep paying for all four indefinitely.

The one exception worth making is sunscreen, because it outperforms everything else and it is worth confounding your own experiment for.

Build The Habit Before You Judge It

Attach the two gummies to something that already happens without a decision: the kettle boiling, the bathroom light, the first alarm. Keep the jar visible. A jar in a drawer gets opened once a week and a jar beside the coffee gets opened every day.

Missing a morning is a missed morning rather than a broken streak. The people who abandon a routine are usually the ones who treat one lapse as a verdict on the whole project.

What Month One Will And Will Not Show

Expect nothing visible. Skin replaces its surface across four to six weeks, so the cells arriving at your face in week four were only half-built with anything new. A nail grows about three millimetres in a month, which is a sliver near the cuticle.

What month one does tell you is whether you will keep doing it, whether you like the taste, and whether it upsets your stomach. Those are real answers and they are worth having before you order three more jars.

The Thirty Day Check

  • Did you take it on at least twenty-five of the thirty days?
  • Any digestive unsettlement, and did it pass after the first week?
  • Photograph the same hand again: is the new growth different from the older nail?
  • Re-read your three sentences. Would you write them the same way today?
  • Is the jar still somewhere you see it every morning?

If the honest answer to the first question is "about twelve days", the useful conclusion is not that the product failed. It is that the habit needs a better cue.

The Ninety Day Decision

Three renewal cycles is the point at which the photographs can answer you. Compare day one with day ninety side by side rather than trying to remember. If nothing has changed, stop — that is a real answer, and the sixty day window exists so reaching it does not cost you.

Worth noting: the window closes at day sixty and the fair assessment lands at day ninety. If you are unsure at day fifty-five, that is the moment to decide, not day ninety-one.

Quick Answers

Is one jar enough to try it?

One jar is one month, which tells you about tolerance and habit but not about results. Most people start with three so the first honest assessment happens on product they already have.

What if I forget for a week?

Restart. There is no loading phase and nothing to build back up to; what matters is the average across months.

Should I photograph every week?

Day one, day forty-five and day ninety is plenty. Weekly photographs mostly capture lighting.
